On June 9, the main bridge of the Chongming-Qidong Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge was precisely closed, marking the full connection of the main structure of this world's largest-span cable-stayed bridge for both highway and railway with a ballastless track, accelerating the construction of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High Speed Railway and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. Located on the north branch waterway of the Yangtze River estuary, the bridge connects Qidong in Jiangsu with Chongming in Shanghai. It has a total length of 4.09 km and a main span of 400 meters. It is a key controlling project of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High Speed Railway, which is part of the Yangtze River Corridor of the national "Eight North-South and Eight East-West" high speed railway network. The bridge is expected to be open to traffic by 2027. Upon completion, the railway travel time between Shanghai and Qidong, Jiangsu will be reduced from 2.5 hours to less than half an hour, significantly shortening the time-space distance between Shanghai and Jiangsu, further improving the comprehensive multi-dimensional transport network of the Yangtze Economic Belt, strengthening regional connectivity in the Yangtze River Delta, and continuing to support the coordinated and high-quality development of the regional economy.
