The Xi'an-Chongqing High Speed Railway, a major high-speed rail artery with a total length of approximately 739 kilometers and a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour, is an important component of both the Beijing-Kunming Corridor and the Baotou (Yinchuan)-Haikou Corridor within China's national "Eight North-South and Eight East-West" high-speed railway network. Starting from Xi'an in the north and terminating in Chongqing in the south, it is the first railway in China to traverse the heart of the Daba Mountains.
As of March 2026, 49 tunnels have been bored through and 65 bridges have been closed on the Ankang-Chongqing section of the Xi'an-Chongqing High Speed Railway. The entire line is fully entering the critical stage of girder erection, station building construction, and the installation of the "Four Electrics" systems. Meanwhile, on the Xi'an-Ankang section, all tunnels and bridges have been fully completed and all track laying work has been finished. Five newly constructed station buildings along the line—including Xi'andong Railway Station and Niubeiliang Railway Station—have had their station name signs installed and unveiled.
