CRE Train Operations Surpass 120,000

As of November 28, the number of CRE trains operated exceeded 120,000, with cargo value surpassing USD 490 billion. Eastbound and westbound services remain largely balanced, and the comprehensive heavy-container rate has remained stable at nearly 100%.

Transport routes continue to expand. A total of 128 cities in China now operate CRE train services, reaching 232 cities in 26 European countries as well as more than 100 cities in 11 Asian countries, covering almost the entire Eurasian region.

Cargo categories are increasingly diverse. The CRE train now transports goods under 53 major categories and more than 50,000 products. High value-added items such as automobiles and auto parts, machinery and electrical equipment have become the main export commodities.

Port capacity has improved significantly. Six major ports—Alataw Pass, Horgos, Erenhot, Manzhouli, Suifenhe and Tongjiang—can now handle up to 184 trains per day, with clearance time shortened from around half a day to under 30 minutes, and in the fastest cases, just a few minutes.

Cargo organization has become more efficient. Fourteen assembly centers—including Xi’an, Chengdu-Chongqing, Zhengzhou and Jinhua (Yiwu)—have formed a domestic network that accelerates the shift from “point-to-point” to “hub-to-hub” transport. In the first ten months of this year, 87% of CRE trains nationwide departed from these 14 hubs.

Transport costs have been effectively reduced. With the continued expansion of operations, domestic and international transport prices have fallen by more than 40% compared with the initial period of operation. Policies issued by China’s finance, taxation and customs authorities—such as land port departure tax rebates and domestic segment freight apportionment and reduction for return trips—have further lowered operating costs for enterprises.
