November 26, 2025, marks the second anniversary of the opening of the Lijiang-Shangrila Railway, a key section of the Yunnan-Xizang Railway. Stretching 139.7 kilometers, the line links Lijiang with Shangrila and ended the absence of railway service in the Diqing Tibetan autonomous prefecture in Yunnan province.

Over the two years since its opening, both passenger and freight volumes on the Lijiang-Shangrila Railway have grown steadily, turning the aspiration of “smooth travel for people and unimpeded flow for goods” into reality for communities along the line. The railway has not only brought stable passenger flows, enabling many villagers to earn income through tourism at their doorstep, but has also increased road-rail intermodal transport, ensuring that abundant local resources continue to move off the plateau via the railway.
