Paper Train Tickets Retire, Embracing a Smarter Future

According to railway regulations, paper reimbursement vouchers will be completely phased out after September 30 this year and replaced with electronic invoices. Since November 1 last year, CR has promoted the full use of digital electronic invoices for passenger services. For reimbursement, passengers no longer need to print train tickets at stations, ticket agencies, or self-service machines. Instead, electronic invoices can be issued directly online.

The retirement of paper train tickets reflects the deepening of the digital transformation across society. From transportation to government services, from daily shopping to medical appointments, digitalization is permeating all aspects of life. The full withdrawal of paper tickets demonstrates the continuous progress and maturity of digitalization within the railway system. It also shows that digital services can benefit diverse groups of passengers. For elderly travelers who may face challenges using digital tools, measures such as retaining travel itineraries and providing staffed service counters ensure equitable access to technological benefits. This transformation, characterized by "advancing technology with inclusive services," represents an essential step in social progress.
