On the morning of August 4, the breakthrough of the Changshui Airport Tunnel was safely completed, laying a solid foundation for the full completion and opening of the Chongqing-Kunming High Speed Railway. The Changshui Airport Tunnel stretches 8,770 meters and runs beneath sensitive structures including airport operational areas, freight corridors, airport runways and the existing Shanghai-Kunming Railway. With highly complex geological conditions along its route, it is classified as a high-risk tunnel due to its high environmental sensitivity, significant geological safety risks and numerous technical innovations.

With the completion of this tunnel, 43 tunnels within the Yunnan section of the Chongqing-Kunming High Speed Railway have now been completed, with a tunnel completion rate of 80%.

The full line of the Chongqing-Kunming High Speed Railway spans approximately 700 kilometers, including 388.6 kilometers within Yunnan Province. Once operational, travel time between Chongqing and Kunming will be significantly reduced, greatly enhancing transportation connectivity between Southwest China and the rest of the country and promoting coordinated regional economic development.
