National Railway Freight Volume Reaches 1.641 Billion Tons in First Five Months

       From January to May this year, national railways transported a total of 1.641 billion tons of freight,   a YoY increase of 3.1%.   The daily average number of loaded freight cars reached 181,000, up 4.2% year-on-year, providing strong support for smoothing domestic and international dual circulation and ensuring stable operation of the national economy.

  The support for bulk material transport has been strong. Key projects have been continuously prioritized with green channels opened to ensure efficient delivery. In the first five months, national railways transported 845 million tons of coal, including 575 million tons of thermal coal. Direct railway supply stocks at power plants remained at a high level, aiding peak summer power demand management.

  Logistics service quality has been improved continuously. Efforts to develop comprehensive logistics contracting services and promote the transfer of bulk cargo transport from road to rail have advanced. In the first five months, 655 logistics contracts were signed, covering 979 million tons of cargo. Cooperation with shipping enterprises expanded, developing 43 multimodal "one-bill coverage system" products. During this period, national railways transported 6.833 million TEUs of rail-water intermodal container freight, an 18.4% YoY increase.

  Cross-border freight transport has been stable and smooth. From January to May, CRE trains maintained stable operations. China-Central Asia trains cumulatively operated 6,046 trips, a 23% increase year-on-year. The China-Laos Railway transported a total of 2.502 million tons of cross-border freight, up 8% year-on-year.
