As of June 17, the Harbin-Dalian Railway has safely transported over one billion passengers. Starting from Harbin in Northeast China and extending southwards to Dalian, the railway runs through Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces, and is the world's first high-speed railway operating in a severe cold region.
Operational safety has remained stable. With this railway located in a severe cold zone with temperature variations exceeding 70 degrees Celsius between winter and summer, CR-Shenyang has innovated and mastered comprehensive technologies for operating and maintaining high-speed railways in such conditions. On trains, a stable temperature is maintained throughout all carriages, overcoming challenges of low temperatures near carriage connections and doors. On the track, issues related to frost heave control of the railway foundation have been solved, enabling a unified “winter-summer timetable” with a year-round operating speed of 300 km/h. In traction power supply, communication signals and other equipments, core technical systems have been developed to ensure cold-resistance performance. For driver operations, effective measures for ice and snow conditions have been summarized and promoted, ensuring safe, punctual, smooth, and comfortable high speed train services.
Northeast China’s high-speed rail network has taken shape. Over more than ten years since its opening, the Harbin-Dalian Railway has driven the development of a north-south high-speed rail corridor with the railway as the backbone. It connects in the north with the Harbin-Qiqihar High Speed Railway, Harbin-Mudanjiang High Speed Railway and Harbin-Jiamusi Rapid Railway; in the central region with the Changchun-Hunchun Intercity Railway, Changbaishan-Dunhuanan section of the Shenyang-Jiamusi High Speed Railway, and Changchun-Baicheng-Ulanhot high speed railway; and in the south with the Shenyang–Dandong, Xinmin-Tongliao, and Dandong–Dalian high speed railways. It also links with the Beijing-Harbin High Speed Railway's Beijing-Shenyang section, integrating into the national high-speed rail network and forming a two-hour economic zone centered on cities including Shenyang, Changchun and Dalian.
