In Jilin City, Jilin Province, a "cultural landmark" has re-emerged into the public eye. In 2024, the newly restored Jilin-Chaoyang Railway Jilin Main Station building officially opened to the public, quickly becoming a hot topic in cultural tourism circles and even hailed as "China's Most Artistic Train Station."
Built in 1928, this historic station features a unique architectural blend of Chinese and Western styles. Over time, it gradually stepped back from active transportation service, yet its historical significance grew ever more prominent. In 2022, Jilin City launched a restoration project that meticulously preserved the station's original appearance while adding a railway culture exhibition zone, revitalizing history in a fresh, engaging way. Today, the station remains part of Jilin's railway network while also transforming into a "museum without walls."
Since opening in 2024, the station has introduced a "Railway Memories" themed tour: visitors can take photos at the station by day, stroll along the Songhua River at dusk to admire the rime, and enjoy local delicacies like guobaorou in Scoop at Henan Street Night Market in the evening. A local tourism official stated, "Through the 'station + film + food' model, we aim to immerse visitors in Jilin's diverse culture."
Transportation empowers tourism, and culture enriches the city. Under its artistic reinvention, Jilin Main Station weaves together the city's industrial heritage, natural scenery and folk traditions, drawing an increasing number of travelers to explore its charm.
