On May 14, the groundbreaking ceremony for the China-Mongolia Ganqimaodu to Gashuun Sukhait Railway was held at Ganqimaodu Port in Urad Middle Banner, Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia.
This marks the second China-Mongolia cross-border railway in nearly 70 years since the Erenhot-Zamyn-üüd Railway was completed in 1956. The railway crosses the border at Ganqimaodu Port, passes through Mongolia's Gashuun Sukhait Port, and connects to Gashuun Sukhait Railway Station in Mongolia's South Gobi Province. The China section is planned for completion in 2027.
The project is jointly advanced by China and Mongolia. The China section is invested and constructed by the CHN Energy, while the Mongolian section is funded and built by the Tavantolgoi Railway Company. Both sides have agreed on a unified design, separate construction and seamless cross-border connection.
