According to CR, the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High Speed Railway will open for operation on December 26. The travel time from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Huzhou Railway Station will be as fast as 55 minutes, further enhancing the railway arteries of the Yangtze River Delta.

The Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High Speed Railway starts from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, passes through Suzhou City in Jiangsu Province, and connects to Huzhou Railway Station in Zhejiang Province. The total length of the line is 164 kilometers, with a design speed of 350 km/h. It will have eight stations: Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, Shanghai Songjiang Railway Station, Liantang Railway Station, Suzhounan Railway Station, Shengze Railway Station, Huzhou Nanxun Railway Station, Huzhoudong Railway Station and Huzhou Railway Station. Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Huzhou Railway Station are existing stations, while the other six stations are newly constructed.

The Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High Speed Railway passes through an alluvial plain, where the geological conditions are complex and construction is challenging. Since the project began in June 2020, CR has led various participating units to integrate green and low-carbon development principles throughout the planning, design and construction phases. The project team focused on scientific research, ensuring strict control over safety, quality, investment and environmental protection, and efficiently advancing construction. A total of 38 bridges, including the Songhu Grand Bridge, have been built, ensuring the project's timely completion.

Before opening for operation, CR meticulously organized relevant units to strictly adhere to regulations and standards. They conducted integrated testing and commissioning, testing and safety evaluations for all specialized equipment on the railway. Comprehensive optimizations were made to track conditions, pantograph-wire performance, train control systems and communication signals. Currently, the line meets all safety and stability requirements for high-speed rail operations and is ready to open.

The Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High Speed Railway will operate at a maximum speed of 350 km/h. In the initial phase of operation, the railway authority will arrange trains according to regular and peak schedules, with up to 38 daily high-speed train services, all of which will be cross-line trains. Travel times from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Shanghai Songjiang Railway Station, Suzhounan Railway Station and Huzhou Nanxun Railway Station will be 16 minutes, 26 minutes and 43 minutes, respectively. The travel time from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Huzhou Railway Station will be as fast as 55 minutes, which is 55 minutes shorter than the route via the Shanghai-Hangzhou section of the Shanghai-Kunming High Speed Railway and the Hangzhou-Huzhou section of the Ningbo-Hangzhou High Speed Railway. The first high-speed trains from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Hangzhouxi Railway Station will take 78 minutes. After adjustments to the train schedule in the first quarter of 2025, up to 229 high-speed train services will be operating daily. To meet the diverse travel needs of passengers, the railway authority will implement flexible discounts and differentiated market-based fare mechanisms on the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High Speed Railway, providing more travel options. Passengers can check the specific ticket prices via the Railway 12306 platform.

The Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High Speed Railway connects Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to the Shanghai railway hub and links with the Ningbo-Hangzhou High Speed Railway and the Hefei-Hangzhou High Speed Railway at Huzhou Railway Station. It is a key project for enhancing, expanding and strengthening the high-speed rail network in the Yangtze River Delta. Once in operation, this railway will further improve the regional rail network layout, promote the integrated construction of infrastructure in the Yangtze River Delta, facilitate travel for residents along the route, and have significant implications for boosting local industrial development and supporting the high-quality, integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.
