The Chongqing-Kunming High Speed Railway plays a key role in the “eight vertical and eight horizontal lines” national railway network. The Yunnan Section takes 388.6 kilometers of the whole line, which is 699 kilometers, and is the first railway that bears the passenger trains that can reach speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour in Yunnan Province. There are 53 tunnels in the section. Bridges and tunnels account for 87.4% of this line’s total length.
“When roads are open, the economy thrives. Industrial development and livelihood protection depend on the great circulation of logistics and, more importantly, traffic circulation.” Said Xu Hong, an independent analyst. He also said that southwest Chongqing, southern Sichuan, northeast Yunnan, and some other places still lack high-speed railways. As the Chengdu-Chongqing High Speed Railway, the Chengdu-Kunming High Speed Railway, the Chongqing-Qianjiang High Speed Railway, and other lines are completed one after another, these lines will constitute a network with the Chongqing-Kunming High Speed Railway, enhancing the density of high-speed railway in Yunnan and surrounding provinces.
Liu Gang said that the Chongqing-Kunming High Speed Railway will further perfect the national comprehensive transportation network and strengthen the link between the twin-city economic circle in the Chengdu-Chongqing region and the city cluster in central Yunnan after its completion. By then, Yanjin, Yiliang, Zhaoyang, Huize, Xundian, and other districts and counties in Yunnan Province can be directly connected to downtown Kunming and Kunming Changshui Airport via the Chongqing-Kunming High Speed Railway, which will greatly improve the travel conditions of people and high-quality economic and social development along the route.
