On June 20, the high speed railway linking Beijing and Wuhan, a section of Beijing-Guangzhou High Speed Railway starts normalized operation at 350 km/h under high operation standard, with intelligent Fuxing EMUs and high-quality express trains put into operation, as well as upgraded services such as quiet coaches and new tickets price rates. The travel time along Beijing-Guangzhou HSR and to and from surrounding cities are further reduced, to support people’s pursuit for a more enjoyable travel experience.
According to a related official of CR, the Beijing-Wuhan Section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR is a main artery in the eight North-South and eight East-West HSR network, seamlessly connecting Xuzhou-Lanzhou, Zhengzhou-Chongqing, Wuhan-Shiyan and other HSRs. With stronger stimulative effect on the regional development, the normalized high-standard operation at 350 km/h allows more efficient HSR network operation and quality transport services on high speed trains, thus better serving the economic and social development and fulfilling people’s travel demands.

Firstly, the improved transport capacity enables more high speed trains to/from Beijing. The speeding-up from 310 km/h up-standard operation to 350 km/h high-standard operation increases the overall transport capacity of the section by 7 percent, equivalent to 15 additional high speed trains (18,000 seats) from Beijing to Wuhan each day specifically, further improving the transport capacity for more high speed trains to and from Beijing via HSRs linking different regions. Since June 20, CR operates 14 additional high speed trains running from Chongqingbei, Xianbei, Shenzhenbei, Guiyangbei, Zhuzhouxi, Jiaozuo and other railway stations to Beijing, to facilitate travelling to and from the Capital. As EMU trains keep speeding up, the everyday running distance and turnaround efficiency of EMU trains are improved. Specifically, it is expected to save 15 EMUs to fulfill the same transport volumes on the Beijing-Wuhan section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR.

Secondly, shorter travel duration creates more convenient travel experience for passengers. The Beijing-Wuhan Section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR, as a main artery of the HSR network in central China, connects 12 HSR lines including Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan, Shijiazhuang-Jinan, Xuzhou-Lanzhou, Zhengzhou-Chongqing, Zhengzhou-Taiyuan, Zhengzhou-Fuyang, Jinan-Zhengzhou, Shanghai-Chengdu and Wuhan-Shiyan. The 350 km/h normalized high-standard operation strengthens its stimulative effect on the regional development by further compressed travel duration along the line and to/from the surrounding cities. For the Beijing-Wuhan Section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR, the upgraded minimum travel duration from Beijingxi is 1:01 (to Shijiazhuang), 2:11 (to Zhengzhoudong) and 3:48 (to Wuhan). The shortest travel duration from Beijingxi to Chongqingbei via the Beijing-Wuhan Section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR and the contemporaneous Zhengzhou-Chongqing HSR is reduced to 6:46. For cross line operation via the Beijing-Wuhan Section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR, the updated shortest travel duration from Beijingxi is 4:11 (to Xianbei) and 6:24 (to Lanzhouxi) northwestwardly; 7:31 (to Chengdudong), 8:20 (to Guiyangbei) and 10:24 (to Kunmingnan) southwestwardly; 5:16 (to Changshanan), 7:38 (to Guangzhounan), 8:10 (Shenzhenbei) and 8:31 (to Hong Kong West Kowloon) southwardly; 6:08 (to Nanchangxi) eastwardly. For other departure stations, the shortest travel duration is 2:19 from Beijing Fengtai to Taiyuannan, 10:07 from Guangzhounan to Lanzhouxi and 7:56 from Xi’anbei to Shenzhenbei.

Thirdly, the operation of high-quality standard trains at 350 km/h significantly improves the operation quality of HSR. 57 high-quality standard through trains running at 350km/h and calling at main stations are put into operation on Beijing-Wuhan Section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR, including 53 trains to and from Beijing and 4 trains in other directions, covering 16 provincial-level regions such as Beijing, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Chongqing, Sichuan, Shaanxi and Jiangxi. Besides, first 350 km/h high-quality standard through trains from Luoyang in Henan, Xiangyang and Yichang in Hubei, Shaoyang in Hunan and Beihai in Guangxi to Beijingxi are launched. The high-quality standard trains are scheduled to depart from Beijingxi Railway Station and Beijing Fengtai Railway Station approximately on an hourly basis from 7:00 to 20:00 every day, with comparable number of trains running to different destinations, making more options for passengers. Ten additional intelligent Fuxing EMUs are put into cross line operation via Beijing-Wuhan Section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR, bound for Nanchang, Guiyang, Kunming and other provincial capitals for the first time, expanding the high-quality transport services of intelligent Fuxing EMUs to more passengers. More specific measures are rolled out to further improve the operation quality of HSR, such as the quiet coach service on 16 high-standard trains from Beijingxi to Zhengzhoudong, Wuhan and Chongqingbei, business class service at 4 stations, namely Baodingdong, Luohexi, Zhumadianxi and Xinyangdong, and new services like the periodic pass and trip-based tickets for the Beijing-Wuhan Section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR.

The official also mentioned that the train running at 350 km/h under normalized high operation standard on Beijing-Wuhan Section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR is another important achievement in building safety standard demonstration HSR lines. Beijing-Guangzhou HSR was built according to the standards for operation at 300-350 kilometers per hour. Since the completion of the whole line on December 26, 2012, it has been operated at 310 km/h up to design standards. Fully drawing on the successful experience of Beijing-Shanghai HSR, Chengdu-Chongqing HSR and other HSRs in building safety standard demonstration HSR lines in recent years, CHINA RAILWAY has endeavored in building Beijing-Guangzhou HSR into another safety standard demonstration line, with the Beijing-Wuhan Section as the first part up to the demonstration line standards. CHINA RAILWAY organized the dynamic inspection and successfully carried out the full-line operational test upon completion of the railway line, and made high-quality preparations up to high standards, such as project acceptance, safety assessment, regulation revision, employee training and emergency drills. So far, CHINA RAILWAY has successfully built the safety standard demonstration lines, with a total mileage of nearly 3,200 km, including Beijing-Shanghai HSR, Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway, Beijing-Zhangjiakou HSR, Chengdu-Chongqing HSR and Beijing-Wuhan Section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR, and realized operation at 350 km/h under normalized high operation standard on these routes.
