Built in 1895, Fengtai Railway Station served for passenger and freight transport, technical operations of train marshalling, etc., on rail lines such as Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway, Beijing-Guangzhou Railway and Beijing-Shanghai Railway. As the capital construction and railways development keep accelerating in Beijing, Fengtai Railway Station closed in 2021 after the operations undertaken by the station had been transferred to Beijingxi Railway Station, Fengtaixi Railway Station and other stations, and reconstruction of the station commenced in September 2018. The reconstructed station has a gross floor area of nearly 400,000 square meters as well as 32 rail tracks and 32 platforms. It will be able to accommodates a maximum of 14,000 passengers per hour.
Beijing Fengtai Railway Station stands as the first mega-size station in China adopting the overlapped design of high speed railway yard and conventional railway yard, and presents a three-dimensional traffic mode, namely, “high speed railway on top, conventional railway on the ground level and subway under the ground”, facilitating passengers’ seamless transfer in the urban transit system. The station is equipped with user-friendly passenger service system and barrier-free facilities, which provide services such as ticketing, inquiry, temporary ID card making, express delivery, service booking and ticket changing. The station is also installed with photovoltaic power generation system, natural lighting system and natural ventilation system, which substantially save construction investment, and facilitate energy conservation and consumption reduction in future operation.
CHINA RAILWAY meticulously organized competent units to make preparations before the opening of the station in strict compliance with relevant regulations and standards, e.g., testing & inspection before acceptance, safety assessment, and comprehensive optimization & adjustment of all professional equipment, employee pre-job training, etiquette training and emergency drills, in a bid to fully support the operation of the station. Up to now, all requirements and conditions for safe and stable operation have been fulfilled.
After the opening of Beijing Fengtai Railway Station, Beijingxi Railway Station, Beijing Railway Station, and other stations will have their functions further optimized accordingly, achieving more coordinated and balanced transport services among different railway stations.
The opening-to-traffic of Beijing Fengtai Railway Station will further strengthen the comprehensive transport service functions of Beijing and greatly facilitate the people’s travel, and is of great significance to constantly enhancing the passengers’ sense of happiness and fulfillment, and promoting the economic and social development of the capital.
