The Beijing-Wuhan section passed the trial test on May 13, marking an important achievement in building safety standard demonstration line of the Beijing-Guangzhou High-speed Railway. Starting from June 20, the section linking Beijing with Wuhan will operate at 350 km/h under normalized high operation standard. High-quality standard through trains calling at main stations and intelligent Fuxing EMUs will be put into operation on the same day. Passengers can enjoy the “Quiet Car” service, new tickets price rate, and other services. A more flexible and market demand-oriented pricing and discounting approach is adopted for the ticketing system. As the minimum transportation time from Beijing to Wuhan will be shortened to 3 hours and 48 minutes, the travel experience is expected to be improved substantially.
As the operation speed stabilizes at 350 km/h, the minimum travel time from Beijingxi to Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhoudong, and Wuhan is expected to be cut to 1:01, 2:11, and 3:48 respectively, meaning that the shortest travel duration will be 5:16, 7:38, 4:11, 6:08, 7:31, and 8:20 for cross line operation from Beijingxi to Changshanan, Guangzhounan, Xi’anbei, Nanchangxi, Chengdudong, and Guiyangbei respectively. From June 20, high-quality express train with access to key stations only and intelligent “Fuxing” EMUs with quite coaches and business class are expected to be introduced to the Beijing-Wuhan section of Beijing-Guangzhou HSR. With new services like the periodic pass and trip-based tickets, fare is adjusted in accordance with market demand where factors like peak season, rush hour, seating class and traveling section are to be weighed properly. The price released after the adjustment is considered a ceiling price which changes accordingly constituting a multi-tier pricing mechanism. With the best offer of 410 yuan (34.2% discount), passengers are expected to have more options than ever.
With a total length of 2,298km, the Beijing-Guangzhou HSR – a key corridor among the eight North-South and eight East-West HSR network - runs through Beijing, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, and Guangdong. The Beijing-Wuhan section is of great significance as it connects the core of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Central Plain city cluster, and the city clusters near the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Therefore, the 350km/h speed of the section translates into closer connections between cities, fulfilling people’s pursuit for more enjoyable travel experience. CHINA RAILWAY will seize this opportunity to comprehensively optimize the HSR diagram, unleash the potential of the railway network, improve passengers’ travel experience, and bolster economic and social development.
