In the early morning of June 20, with successful switching to the e-ticket system on the conventional speed railways across China, the e-ticket has been smoothly expanded to China's conventional speed railways.

According to an official of the passenger transport department of CHINA RAILWAY, from 00:00 to 12:00 on June 20, 619,937 e-tickets for conventional speed railways have been sold, and 293,419 passengers who bought e-tickets for conventional speed railway have self-checked in and out. All the e-ticket equipment worked normally and the feedback from passengers was good.

According to the official, the e-ticket system was first piloted on Hainan Island-looping HSR from November 2018, then expanded to four high speed intercity railways including Shanghai-Nanjing, Chengdu-Chongqing, Guangzhou-Zhuhai (Zhanjiang West) and Kunming-Dali-Lijiang in July 2019, and then widely applied to HSRs and intercity railways across China since Q4 2019. On April 29, 2020, e-tickets have been applied to all HSRs and intercity railways in the mainland. In the promotion period, facing the challenges in different travel rush periods, on different railways, in different regions and under different scenarios, such as the travel rush in the Spring Festival and summer vacation, minor holidays and golden weeks, the e-ticket system has shown excellent safety and stability and provided passengers with excellent experiences. Rich technical reserves and practical experiences accumulated during the promotion period have laid a solid foundation for implementation on conventional speed railways.

Combined with the experience of implementing e-ticket on HSRs, the railway sector has actively prepared for the implementation of e-ticket on conventional speed railways. It has completed a series of preparations such as planning, software research and development, equipment debugging, network reinforcement, regulations formulation, personnel training, etc. After three months of intense and careful preparation, in the early morning of June 20, the conventional speed railways across China have successfully switched to e-ticket system, covering the trunk railways and heavy traffic railways such as Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing-Shanghai Railway, Beijing-Kowloon Railway, Lanzhou-Lianyungang Railway of the conventional speed railway network, involving more than 1,300 stations. After this expansion, the e-tickets are now applied at more than 2,400 railway stations across the country, benefiting more than 95% of railway passengers.

The official said that during the implementation of e-ticket on conventional speed railways, passengers are welcome to put forward constructive suggestions. The railway sector will continuously enrich the application scenarios and services, improve passengers' using experience, and continuously improve the informatization and intelligent service level of railway passenger transport.
