At 10:30 am on March 27, Beijing time, a 500m-long rail was placed firmly on the subgrade near the outskirts of Vientiane, capital of Laos, which marked that the Lao section of China-Laos Railway has entered the rail-laying stage and China-Laos Railway construction has achieved important progress.

Since the construction of the China-Laos Railway began in December 2016, CHINA RAILWAY has worked closely with relevant parties in Laos to carry out the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, fully implement the requirements of building China-Laos Railway into a landmark project of the “Belt and Road” and China-Laos friendship, and strive to build a high-quality project and a corruption-free railway project. Chinese and Lao enterprises involved in construction have overcome various difficulties, and focused on safety and quality to actively promote the project construction. By the end of 2019, the main construction work was successfully completed; the project construction didn't stop during the Spring Festival in 2020, and more than 10,000 railway builders worked day and night on the site; after the novel coronavirus outbreak, all enterprises involved in construction implemented prevention and control measures, optimized construction organization and scientifically allocated resources so as to steadily advance the project construction. At present, the bridge, tunnel and subgrade construction has been nearly completed, and the rail, "communication, signal, power supply and electrification" and station building construction starts, and the track related construction work has officially entered the rail-laying stage.

China-Laos Railway connects China's Kunming with Vientiane, Laos, and is a landmark project of the “Belt and Road” and China-Laos friendship. It is also the first international railway which is mainly invested by China, adopts Chinese technical standards and equipment and is directly connected to the Chinese railway network. It is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2021. After the completion of the China-Laos Railway, it is of great significance to promote the BRI construction, help Laos to realize the strategy of "turning itself from a landlocked country to a land-linked country", promote regional economic and social development, and benefit the two countries and their people.
