Recently, Baozuo Tunnel, the longest tunnel on the Sichuan section of the Xining-Chengdu Railway, was completed. Baozuo Tunnel is a single-bore, double-track railway tunnel with a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour. It has a total length of 11,795 meters, an average elevation of 3,500 meters and a maximum elevation of nearly 3,700 meters. A total of 98.5 percent of the tunnel passes through fractured surrounding rock classified as Grade IV or above.
At present, 11 of the 14 tunnels on the Sichuan section of the Xining-Chengdu Railway have been successfully completed. The 62 bridges are 92.4 percent complete overall, while 85.6 percent of the subgrade works have been completed. Overall construction progress on the project has exceeded 55 percent.
