The Rierlangshan Tunnel on the section of the Sichuan-Qinghai Railway currently under construction broke through on July 22. Located at an altitude of 3,500 meters, the tunnel is 2,260 meters long. The Sichuan-Qinghai Railway, linking Xining, Qinghai province, with Chengdu, Sichuan province, has a total length of nearly 837 kilometers. Once operational, it will cut the fastest travel time between Chengdu and Xining from about nine hours to around five hours.
