Starting January 26, the national railway network in China will implement a new train timetable, significantly enhancing regional connectivity. Following the opening of the Baotou-Yinchuan High Speed Railway, the fastest travel time between Yinchuan and Beijing has been reduced to 6 hours and 22 minutes. Yan’an has, for the first time, launched direct high-speed railway services to Beijing, cutting the fastest travel time between the two cities to 5 hours and 42 minutes. The opening and operation of the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High Speed Railway and Shantou-Shanwei High Speed Railway have also accelerated the integrated development of western and eastern Guangdong with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Services on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Railway continue to be intensified, with 52 additional trains introduced under the new timetable, bringing the total number of passenger trains to 415. This line now ranks first nationwide in terms of service density and station stop frequency. A new high-speed railway line connecting Zhuhai and Fuzhou has also officially opened. The high-speed railway sleeper services between Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station have been upgraded to daily operations, further improving the convenience of long-distance cross-boundary travel.
Under this timetable adjustment, while ensuring operational safety, railway authorities have shortened the train headway for some EMU services on the Beijing–Shanghai High Speed Railway and Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Railway. In terms of passenger service enhancement, the Railway Travel QR Code will be applied to all EMU trains.
