Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway Enters Lives of Millions

The Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway in Indonesia is named "Whoosh," an acronym for the Indonesian words meaning "time-saving, efficient, advanced," as well as an onomatopoeia for the sound of the speeding train. Since its official opening in October 2023, the high-speed rail, jointly built by China and Indonesia, has seen strong passenger growth, safe and orderly operations, and significantly enhanced regional influence.

Currently, local Indonesian drivers and train mechanics operate the line, reflecting the successful localization of technology. "From technology to management, Indonesian talents are growing through practice," said Emil Monti, Corporate Communications Manager of KCIC, "The high speed rail not only brings modern infrastructure but also promotes the development of local operation teams."

Spanning 142.3 kilometers with a top speed of 350 km/h, the line reduces travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from over three hours to 46 minutes. Its fast, comfortable and green travel experience has made "Whoosh" a shining symbol of modern transport in Indonesia. To better meet passenger needs, the high speed rail continues to optimize services. Shuttle bus routes have been launched for seamless connections between the railway and tourist attractions, and a "Frequent Traveller Card" offers discounts to regular commuters. "We are creating a smarter, more convenient travel ecosystem through digital operations," Emil said.

"I love Whoosh!" This catchy phrase has become popular among Indonesian high speed rail passengers, symbolizing their aspiration for fast, convenient and pleasant travel.
