On April 13, the excavation of the main tunnel of Zhongliangshan Tunnel and the construction of the main pier pile foundation of Tuojiang River Super Major Bridge in Luzhou both started, which marks that the construction of Chongqing-Kunming HSR (Sichuan-Chongqing Section) is in full swing.

Chongqing-Kunming HSR is a part of Xi'an-Kunming HSR (the other part is Xi'an-Chongqing HSR). With a main line length of 1,355 km, a design speed of 350 km/h and a bridge-tunnel ratio of 83.3%, Xi'an-Kunming HSR is an important part of Beijing-Kunming corridor in China's HSR network of "eight north-south lines and eight west-east lines". The Sichuan-Chongqing Section of Chongqing-Kunming HSR, which started early, passes through Chongqing municipality and Sichuan Province, with a total length of about 188 km. It starts from Chongqing West Station of Chongqing Terminal, passes through Jiulongpo Station (reserved), Jiangjin North Station, Yongchuan South Station, Luzhou East Station, Luzhou Station, Nanxi Station, and Lingang Station, and finally ends at Yibin Station.

It is reported that the Chongqing-Kunming HSR is characterized by complex geological structure, large topographic relief, sensitive regional environment and high proportion of tunnels along the line. After the completion of the project, the Beijing-Kunming HSR will be constructed to strengthen the traffic connection among Chengdu, Chongqing and Central Yunnan cities, further improving the leading role of central cities in driving the development of surrounding areas.
