At 7: 16 on October 11, the D7543 EMU train running between Meizhou West Station and Guangzhou East Station departed from Meizhou West Station, marking the official opening of the new Meizhou-Chaoshan Railway. Since then, Meizhou, the Capital of Hakkas in the World, has ended its history of no high-speed rail service.

The new Meizhou-Chaoshan Railway has a main line of 122.4km and a design speed of 250km per hour. The line starts from Meizhou West Station in the north, passes through Meizhou, Jieyang and Chaozhou, and connects with Hangzhou-Shenzhen Railway at Chaoshan Station. Seven stations are set up along the line, namely Meizhou West Station, Shejiang North Station, Jianqiao Station, Fengshun East Station, Jieyang Station, Jieyang Airport Station and Chaoshan Station. At the beginning of its operation, the railway operates 44 EMUs daily, including 12 running between Meizhou and Guangzhou, 10 running between Meizhou and Shenzhen, 8 running between Meizhou and Chaoshan, 8 running between Meizhou and Shantou and 2 for Meizhou-Zhuhai, Meizhou-Xiamen and Meizhou-Yichang respectively. The travel from Meizhou to Guangzhou and Shenzhen only takes 3 hours 25 minutes and 2 hours 52 minutes respectively.

The new Meizhou-Chaoshan Railway is the third pilot e-ticket line in Guangdong Province after the Guangzhou-Zhuhai inter-city railway and the Jiangmen-Zhanjiang railway. Passengers who travel on this line do not need to get paper tickets after buying tickets on 12306 website (including mobile phone clients). Passenger may enter the stations directly by swiping their mobile phones or ID cards, making it easier and faster for passengers to buy tickets and check into the stations.
