
On January 2, China's railways handled 12.213 million passenger trips, with transport operating safely, smoothly and in an orderly manner. On January 3, it is estimated that the national railways will handle 17.45 million passenger trips, with plans to add 1,343 extra passenger trains.
Railway departments across various regions are implementing multiple measures to cope with the peak return passenger flow. These include increasing transport capacity and implementing measures for passenger convenience and benefit to ensure safe, orderly and pleasant travel. CR-Huhhot's Wuhai Railway Station has enhanced full-journey assistance services for the elderly and passengers with reduced mobility at the entrance, established a green channel for medical emergencies, and equipped itself with AEDs, stretchers and other emergency equipment, as well as reading glasses, wheelchairs and other convenience items. CR-Chengdu added 96 passenger trains on the Sichuan-Qinghai Railway and the Chengdu-Zigong-Yibin High Speed Railway. "Traveling to warm sunshine in western Sichuan by bullet train" and "Traveling to the Xingwen Stone Sea by bullet train" have become new travel choices for the New Year holiday. CR-Urumqi added 20 passenger trains to destinations such as Kashgar, Hotan, Altay and Karamay, and operated 16 EMU trains in double formation to destinations including Yining, Bole and Korla.
