The railway transport period for the New Year holiday commenced on December 31, 2025, and will conclude on January 4, 2026, lasting for five days. Railway authorities are leveraging the capacity of newly opened high-speed lines from late 2025, including the Xi'an-Yan'an High Speed Railway, the Baotou-Yinchuan High Speed Railway (Baotou-Huinong section), and the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High Speed Railway. A peak service schedule is being implemented nationwide, with plans to operate over 12,000 passenger trains daily on average. Additional through passenger trains will be arranged to utilize the capacity of new lines and stations, such as the Wuhan-Yichang section of the high-speed railways along the Yangtze River and Hefeixi Railway Station. A total of 270 high-speed and normal-speed trains will be scheduled in a coordinated manner. Cross-border passenger transport is being meticulously organized, including operation of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail cross-boundary passenger trains, as well as China-Laos, China-Mongolia, China-Russia and China-Vietnam international passenger trains, facilitating cross-border tourism and shopping for travelers during the holiday.
