To meet the diverse travel needs of student passengers, railway authorities have further optimized student ticket discount measures in terms of usage period, applicable routes, seat classes and discount levels, significantly improving flexibility and affordability. Relevant discount tickets went on sale on September 6.
The usage period of student discount tickets is now more flexible. The four single-trip discounts available each academic year (from October 1 to September 30 of the following year) are no longer limited to winter and summer vacations and can be used at any time. If a ticket is refunded, the discount usage will be restored.
The discount route setting is more convenient. The location of the institution must match information on the Student Information Network, but the student's home address can be modified based on actual changes without limitation on the number of modifications, allowing flexible travel planning.
The range of seat class options has been expanded. For high-speed trains, student discount tickets have been extended from second-class seats only to second-class seats, first-class seats and high-speed train sleeper berths. For normal-speed trains, the applicable range remains hard seats and hard sleepers.
The pricing rules now include a "stacked discount." Student tickets on high-speed trains are calculated at 75 percent of the execution fare, with the lowest discount reaching 40 percent of the published fare. For example, if the execution fare for a second-class seat on a certain train is 80 percent of the published fare, the student discount will be applied at 75 percent of that price, equivalent to 60 percent of the published fare. For normal-speed trains, the current policy remains unchanged: hard seats are priced at 50 percent of the full fare, while hard sleepers are charged at the hard seat full fare plus the full difference between hard sleeper and hard seat.
