
Beijing Railway Station, located between Jianguomen and Chongwenmen in East 2nd Ring Road of Beijing, is the rail hub of Beijing-Shanghai, Beijing-Harbin, Beijing-Chengde, Fengtai-Shacheng, Beijing-Taiyuan, Beijing-Guangzhou and Beijing-Jiulong Railways.
Beijing Railway Station, formerly known as the Zhengyangmen East Railway Station open to traffic in 1901, was renamed as Qianmen Railway Station, Beijing Railway Station, Beiping Railway Station, and Beiping East Railway Station afterwards. The new Beijing Railway Station, one of the "Ten Great Buildings in Beijing" in the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, was officially open to traffic on September 15, 1959 after being rebuilt. At present, the Beijing Railway Station, with a land area of 250,000 square meters and a building area of 80,000 square meters, is in an axisymmetric layout with waiting hall in the front and the platform in the rear, and its facade at both wings surrounds the central part. The main building of the station faces north, with a width of 218m from west to east, a maximum depth of 124m from north to south and a building area of 71,054m2. Beijing Railway Station stands as a landmark building of both China and its capital city.
Beijing Railway Station, with 1 ticket zone, 2 self-service ticketing halls, 1 entrance and 28 entrance passages, has a waiting area of about 12,000m2 accommodating 13,000 passengers on a daily basis. There are 14 passenger platforms and 16 arrival-departure tracks in the station. Most of the trains are bound for northeast and east China, and there are also trains for international intermodal transport on China-Russia, China-DPRK and China-Mongolia railways.
