10,000-Ton Heavy-Haul Train Trips on Watang-Rizhao Railway Surpass 30,000

On April 16, as freight train 71501 loaded with 12,000 tons of coal departed from Zhangzinan Railway Station in Shanxi, the total number of 10,000-ton heavy-haul train trips on the Watang-Rizhao Railway exceeded 30,000.

The Watang-Rizhao Railway starts from Watang Town, Xing County, Lyuliang City, Shanxi province in the west and ends at Rizhao Port in Shandong province in the east, crossing Shanxi, Henan and Shandong provinces. It is a vital west-to-east coal transport corridor and China's first heavy-haul railway built in one go with a 30-ton axle load. Zhangzinan Railway Station, the only technical operation station on the line, undertakes daily train inspection and maintenance tasks.

As the "golden channel" for west-to-east coal transport, since its opening in December 2014, the daily number of train services on the Watang-Rizhao Railway has grown from just over 10 to more than 140, and the traction tonnage has increased from 5,000 tons to 12,000 tons. To date, it has cumulatively transported over 700 million tons of cargo such as coal.
