A New Freight Train Operation Diagram for National Railway Put into Use on April 1st 
Further Optimizing Freight Transport to Better Serve High-Quality Development

  CR announced that a new freight train operation diagram for the Chinese national railway was implemented on April 1st. After the diagram was adjusted, national railway freight capacity was further optimized, and the transport capacity of domestic high-value fast freight bulk cargo, such as coal, as well as international freight train transportation was further enhanced to improve economic operation,, better serve the construction of a unified national market , and to promote high-quality development.

  The director of the transportation department of CR explained that the diagram adjustment is an optimization and adjustment of the plan of the national railway freight train operation and will thoroughly implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and the two sessions, continue deepening the supply-side structural reform of railway transportation, and allocate railway cargo capacity resources to meet the changing demand in domestic and international freight train transport. The passenger train diagram that was adjusted on December 26th, 2022, and the practices during the 2023 Spring Festival travel rush successfully met the travel needs of passengers amid optimized measures of epidemic prevention and control. The operation of passenger trains is carried out under a flexible capacity arrangement that adapts to passenger needs, following a diagram that changes from day to day.

  The new adjustment will only be applied to the freight train diagram, and the new changes in railway freight capacity supply occurred in the following ways:

  First, the service capacity and scope of railway fast freight achieved further expansion. To meet the demand for the transport of high-value goods, 79 freight trains were added to the domestic fast freight train routes in operation, totaling 481. Among them, 56 trains were added into express freight trains running according to the diagram, that are operated by cross-railway group corporations, reaching a total of 278. Fast freight trains have covered 37 of the 42 channels interconnected between the seven regions - the northeast, north, central, east, south, southwest, and northwest part of China - with an increase of 4 channels that stretch from southwest to central China, southwest to northeast China, southwest to northwest China, and central to northwest China. What's more, the fast freight trains linked all provincial capitals except Lhasa and Xining. To meet the demand for fast logistical services for rural products, 15 fast freight trains have been arranged to facilitate regional specialties going global and are better serving the implementation of the national rural revitalization strategy.

  Second, the support capacity of bulk cargo transportation achieved further enhancement. In order to secure a good start of the economic and social development in various regions and satisfy people's demand for transporting electricity-coal and other energy materials, 353 direct freight trains were arranged to operate under the management of railway group corporations, an increase of 41 trains. Among them, there are 206 non-stop freight trains transporting electricity-coal, 36 more than before; 57 non-stop freight trains for other kinds of coal, three more than before; 90 trains for other cargo, two more than before.

  Third, the ability to serve high standard opening up was further improved. To better serve and support the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, and stabilize the international logistics supply chain, CRE trains, the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, China-Laos Railway, 46 rail-sea intermodal trains were put into operation, bringing the total number of trains in operation on these routes to 332, an increase of 16%. Among them, 82 CRE trains and 36 China-Asia block trains steadily running on the routes; 4 trains were newly put into operation on the New Western Land-Sea Corridor line, reaching a total of 16 trains; 2 trains were added to the China-Laos Railway cross-border freight trains, reaching a total of 6 trains, with an accumulation of 14 cross-border freight trains; 40 more trains were put in operation on the rail-sea intermodal trains, reaching a total of 192 trains, covering 19 ports.

  The director also reminded that, after diagram adjustment, cargo owners could check the information of freight train operation and service through channels like the website, application, and WeChat Official Account of Railway 95306 or pay attention to the dynamic statements released by the local railroad departments. The railway department will promptly figure out the solution and reply as soon as possible, and strive to provide more quality and convenient services for cargo owners.
