In 2022, the Watang-Rizhao Railway, part of the West-to-East Coal Transport Line, transported 103 million tons of cargo, which means China now has one more line transporting over 100 million tons of energy resources per year.
Watang-Rizhao Railway starts in Watang Town in Xingxian County of Lyuliang City, Shanxi Province in the west, and ends at Rizhaogang in Shandong Province in the east, which travels through Shanxi, Henan and Shandong provinces. It is interconnected with seven trunk railways in China including Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing-Shanghai Railway and Beijing-Kowloon Railway. As a heavy haul coal-transporting line connecting the main coal producing areas with the sea, Watang-Rizhao Railway is also China’s first 30-ton axle heavy-load railway built at one time. As the efficiency and quality of railway transportation on Watang-Rizhao Railway continues to improve, the annual volume has increased from 73.9 million tons in 2020 and 92.24 million tons in 2021 to 103 million tons in 2022.
