China-Laos Railway Project

  China-Laos Railway is a landmark project of cooperation between China and Laos. The line runs from Mohan/Boten, a China-Laos border port, to Vientiane, capital of Laos, and connects Yuxi-Mohan Railway of China in the north. The Laos-China Railway Co., Ltd. was established led by China Railway International Co., Ltd. affiliated to CHINA RAILWAY, undertaking design, construction and operation of the projects based on Chinese railway standards. The project is a single-track electrified line and has a total length of 414 km and a design speed of 160 km/h.

  On November 13, 2015, the Cooperation Agreement on Railway Infrastructure Development and Railway Projects between China and Laos was signed in Beijing. On August 24, 2016, Laos-China Railway Co., Ltd. completed its registration in Laos. The China-Laos Railway had a commencement ceremony in Luang Prabang, Laos on December 25, 2016 and is expected to open in December 2021. The project is currently under full-scale construction.

  The China-Laos Railway is an important infrastructure connecting China and Laos and an integral part of Trans-Asian Railway. The project serves as an important means to facilitate the transport for the public, promote economic development and regional industrial upgrading along the line, accelerate the construction of Trans-Asian Railway, achieve infrastructure connectivity of  the BRI countries and enhance the cooperation between China and the ASEAN countries.
