On the morning of May 21, a train carrying Chongqing local foods, agricultural machines and other goods departed from Tuanjiecun Railway Station, and scheduled to arrive in Vientiane, Laos in 4 days. It is the first outbound China-Laos international freight train using the mode of Railway Express.
Railway Express, an express customs clearance for inbound and outbound trains, is a new service for railway container transport, launched by the General Administration of Customs. The move aims to improve the efficiency of international railway corridors, expedite the flow of import and export goods on rail and speed up customs clearance. “As the approach largely cuts clearance time, it helps shorten the train journey by 1 to 2 days, equivalent to 200 yuan cost saving for each container, said the head of the Marketing Department of Xinglongchang Railway Station under CR Chengdu.
For the operation of this international freight train, Xinglongchang Railway Station and Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park have jointly established the mechanism for resource sharing, information exchanges, and mutual support for the transport of prioritized goods. The goal is to coordinate freight loading, shunting and marshaling, train operation as well as other links. In terms of transport organization, Xinglongchang station has tightened the control over key points with operation time, transport route, and (un)loading location all clarified in operation plan. As priorities are given to the loading of empty vehicles, the commencement of technical operation and the powering of locomotive, a holistic approach is taken to ensure the safe and orderly operation of the train.
Statistically, since the opening of China-Laos Railway in December 2021, the number of its international freight trains departing from Chongqing and heading for Vientiane has surpassed 80, with a steady increase maintained in the monthly traffic volumes.
