The CRE Trains Benefits Europe

China’s proposed “Belt and Road” Initiative (BRI) is known as the “New Silk Road” in Germany, which is connected to the “New Silk Road” through the largest inland port in Europe, Duisburg Port. Andreas, the spokesperson for Duisburg Port, stated that in 2022, approximately 1,900 trains traveled between Duisburg and various destinations in China, with an average of about 37 trains per week.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when air cargo capacity was lacking, there was an increased demand for railway transport. At its peak, there were 60 to 70 trains traveling between China and Duisburg each week. According to Duisburg Port’s statistics, in 2021, there were around 2,800 trains, averaging about 54 trains per week traveling back and forth.

Andreas mentioned that BRI, proposed by China, benefits European businesses as well. Overall, the CRE trains have seen positive development, transporting various products between the two nations, with a focus on electronics and pharmaceutical industries, and including machinery, clothing, furniture, automobiles, and other sectors. “We engage with Chinese partners on an equal basis,” he said.
