The Hungary-Serbia Railway runs from Hungary’s capital Budapest to Serbia’s capital Belgrade. Upon completion of its construction, the travel time between the two cities will be shortened from 8 hours to 3 hours.
The CRE Train is mainly loaded with materials needed in the construction of Hungary-Serbia Railway, such as substation equipment, cabinets, OCL components, etc. It runs through many countries including Mongolia, Russia and Poland, before finally reaching the construction site in Belgrade. The total journey costs about 25 days.
CRE takes only one third of the time that would be needed if by sea transport and one fifth of the fares by air transport. The Hungary-Serbia Railway is China’s key BRI project and the flagship project of China-Central Eastern Europe “17+1” cooperation. It is also a symbolic project which shows Chinese railway standards’ interoperability with UIC standards, and China’s full participation in international competition.
