China Now Has 155,000 km Railways in Operation

         In 2022, China completed the task of railway construction for the year by investing 710.9 billion CNY in railway fixed assets, and put into use 4,100 km new railways, including 2,082 km high speed railways. By the end of 2022, the country had 155,000 km railways in operation, of which high speed railways stretch 42,000 km.

        In 2023, China plans to put into operation over 3,000 km new railways, including 2,500 km high speed railways. China Railway, focusing on linking, upgrading and enhancing the railway network, will endeavor to improve holistic functions and benefits of the railway network, transition the focus of railway planning and development from speed and scale to quality and benefit, complete the task of railway investment, thus giving full play to the guiding role of railway investment, promoting the national key projects such as Sichuan-Tibet Railway, upgrading construction management, and facilitating the construction of modern railway infrastructure.
