China Railway will further expand the pilot application of railway e-tickets. On the basis of the pilot application of e-ticket on Hainan Loop High Speed Railway (HSR), the e-ticket will be further used on four more high speed intercity railways including Shanghai-Nanjing Railway, Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, Guangzhou-Zhuhai (Zhanjiangxi) Railway and Kunming-Dali-Lijiang Railway starting from July 27.
The application of e-ticket is a new service launched by the railway department to improve the passenger service quality and passenger travel experience by means of digital and intelligent technologies. The expansion of e-ticket application will base on its pilot application in Hainan Loop HSR, further accumulate experience on different lines and business scenarios, laying a solid foundation for wider promotion in the next stage.
On November 22, 2018, the railway department started the pilot application of e-ticket on the Hainan Loop HSR. By the end of June this year, about 20.87 million e-tickets had been sold. The e-ticket system operates smoothly and orderly with good feedback from the passengers. It has played an active role in improving service quality, improving the efficiency of passenger transport organization and facilitating the passengers’ traveling. At the same time, in view of the problems found in the pilot process, the railway department has taken measures such as increasing hardware facilities, strengthening public promotion, optimizing software functions to improve the overall service.
At present, the e-ticket is only supported on the lines and stations designated by the railway department. If the departure station and the destination station are both pilot stations, a passenger can purchase e-ticket. If the train runs out of the scope of the pilot lines, the passenger has to buy the ticket in the conventional way.
