Zhangjiakou-Hohhot HSR (Zhangjiakou-Ulanqab Section) was put into operation on December 30, marking that the HSR from Beijing to Hohhot is fully completed and the EMU train traveling time between Hohhot and Beijing is reduced to 2 hours and 9 minutes.

Zhangjiakou-Hohhot HSR starts from Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province in the east, passes through Wanquan County, Huai'an County and Shangyi County and enters the territory of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, passes through Xinghe County, Chahar Right Front Banner, Ulanqab City and Zhuozi County, and finally reaches Hohhot City. The HSR has a total length of 287 km and a design speed of 250 km/h, of which the Ulanqab-Hohhot Section was already put into operation in August 2017. The Zhangjiakou-Ulanqab Section opened this time is 161 km long. There are altogether 4 stations including Zhangjiakou Station, Huai'an Station, Xinghe North Station and Ulanqab Station.

The Zhangjiakou-Ulanqab Section of Zhangjiakou-Hohhot HSR connects with Beijing-Zhangjiakou HSR opened on the same day to the east, forming a fast corridor for passenger transport between Beijing and Hohhot. After the whole line from Beijing to Hohhot opened to traffic, the railway sector will arrange 15 pairs of regular EMU trains and 2 pairs of weekend EMU trains. For the first time in history, Hohhot has EMU trains heading to Beijing with a shortest traveling time of 2 hours and 9 minutes.

Before Zhangjiakou-Hohhot HSR (Zhangjiakou-Ulanqab Section) was put into operation, CHINA RAILWAY had carefully organized relevant units to strictly implement various regulations and standards, conduct integrated commissioning & test, inspection, acceptance and safety assessment on various discipline equipment of the HSR, and comprehensively optimize and adjust the track status, pantograph-contact wire performance, train control, and communication & signaling system, ensuring that the HSR can meet the requirements for safe and stable operation. At present, the HSR already meets the requirements for commercial operation.

Zhangjiakou-Hohhot HSR is an important component of Beijing-Lanzhou corridor in China's HSR network of "eight north-south lines and eight east-west lines". The opening of this HSR will greatly facilitate people's travel along the line and unblock the connection between Hohhot-Baotou-Hubei region and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. It is of great significance to promote the development of ethnic minority regions and the coordinated development of regional economy and society.
