By August 31, the 62-day railway summer passenger rush has come to a successful end. From July 1 to August 31, the national railways registered a total of 456 million trips, of which 249 million trips took place in August, an increase of 42.502 million trips compared with July, showing the continuing recovery of passenger traffic. On August 29, national railways handled a total of 9.676 million trips on a single day, hitting a new record high since the Spring Festival in 2020.
This year's summer passenger rush begins when China has made great strategic achievements in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, and is accelerating the recovery of its economic and social order. In this summer passenger rush, therefore, the railway sector faced multiple challenges, such as regular epidemic prevention and control on trains and at stations, helping economic and social development, and supporting flood control and disaster relief at high temperature to ensure safe and smooth railway transportation. Earnestly following the decisions and arrangements made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on "ensuring stability in employment, financial operations, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment and expectations" and "ensuring security in job, basic living needs, operations of market entities, food and energy security, stable industrial and supply chains, and the normal functioning of primary-level governments", the railway sector has made coordinated efforts on the epidemic prevention and control and the passenger transport services during the summer passenger rush, ensuring the safe and smooth travel of the public.
