Assistance by Technology: Teach People to Fish and Increase Their Confidence

"Before I came here, I was always concerned about the challenges of being a good teacher. However, the children's desire for knowledge, active responses in class and happy after-class activities obliterated all my concerns." On November 16, the first volunteer teacher team appointed by China Railway Xi’an Group Co., Ltd. went on duty at Yangzhuang Primary School, Yuandun Town, Mianxian County, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province. Dong Chunyang, a young employee of Xi’an Passenger Transport Depot, has fully experienced happiness of being a volunteer teacher with mental powers of persistence.
Organizing volunteer teachers is merely one of many activities in the program “poverty alleviation through increasing people’s confidence and helping them acquire knowledge and skills” of China Railway Xi’an Group Co., Ltd. The Group always upholds the concept of “teaching people to fish”. It has invited the people from Mianxian County to travel by high speed railways to help them witness the changes in society; sent its staff art troupe to disseminate culture in the rural area of Mianxian County to enhance people’s confidence and resolution to rural revitalization; built teachers’ apartment buildings for Zhangjiahe Town Nine-year School and Tangjiaba Primary School at Qishuba Town of Mianxian County, two schools in the remote mountainous areas, donated books to Mianxian Library and primary schools of the villages of pairing assistance, and installed air source heating systems for 10 schools in mountainous areas including Tangjiaba Primary School, effectively improving the school conditions; invited scholars and agricultural experts to deliver a series of lectures, and provided training for batches of cadres offering assistance, leaders of collective economy entities, and pioneers in starting businesses and making fortune, so as to cultivate enough qualified personnel for this area.
Since the beginning of this year, China Railway Xi’an Group Co., Ltd. has actively leveraged the advantages as a railway enterprise on the basis of offering assistance in the fields of construction, industry, and consumption, continuously strengthened the villagers’ confidence in starting businesses, helped them acquire more skills to achieve prosperity, consolidated the achievements in poverty alleviation in all aspects, and help revitalize the rural areas.
