Railway Construction Tasks in 2016 Completed

  In 2016, CHINA RAILWAY resolutely implemented the decisions and arrangements of the central leadership, prioritized railway construction in the central and western regions, strengthened construction organization and management, attached great importance to project quality and safety, and completed railway construction tasks for the year.

  During the year, China’s railway industry completed fixed-assets investment of 801.5 billion yuan, including 767.6 billion yuan completed by national railways; it put into operation new lines of 3,281km, double tracks of 3,612km, and electrified railways of 5899 km; 46 new construction projects started, of which 15 were mainly invested by local government or social capital. By the end of 2016, national railway operating length in China has reached 124,000km, of which more than 22,000 km were high-speed lines. Whole line of Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway, Kunming-Nanning Railway, Chongqing-Wanzhou HSR and other major projects have been put into operation; Length of railways in operation in middle and western China has reached 95,000km, accounting for 76.6% of the total length of all railways in service in China; construction for 12 poverty-alleviation railway trunk line projects started with a total investment of 23.4 billion yuan completed.

  In 2016, CHINA RAILWAY worked with relevant national departments in preparing the updated Mid- and Long-Term Railway Network Plan, which was later approved by the State Council, drawing a new blueprint for railway construction.
